CWEA Annual Mtg to be held at 3rd Degree Glass Factory

n case you haven't heard, the CWE Association is hosting its annual meeting at 3rd Degree Glass Factory (very cool venue!) on Monday, January 11th. The Association has been around for 50 years and many of us might not be here had it not been for the Association' s efforts over the years. For example, in the 70's (or so) when large throngs of rowdy high school students started hanging out around the corner of Maryland and McPherson and wreaking havoc, neighbors responded by playing opera music from the second story windows, convincing them to hang out elsewhere.

Since then, the Association has helped infuse the neighborhood with original artwork, preserve and highlight the CWE's unique architecture with the house tour (one of the first neighborhoods to do one), and facilitate security efforts and the recent creation of a Neighborhood Stabilization Director. And, of course, there's the ART FAIR which is also put on by the CWE Association. I could go on but you get the picture - the CWEA looks out for the neighborhood and strives to make it a thriving urban community.

At the Annual Meeting, members will vote in a new slate of officers and I'm happy to note that all of them have young families and three of them are on the CWE Families & Friends listserv (in an attempt at full disclosure, I should mention that I'm one of them). I think 2010 will be a great year for the Association and the CWE and I hope you can join us at the Annual Meeting on Monday, January 11th, 6:30-9:30pm at 3rd Degree Glass - 5200 Delmar.

We'll also be recognizing the efforts of Jeff Fister and the Chess Club for their work in improving and inspiring the neighborhood.
